Utilizing Garage Spaces

Utilize and organize your garage spaces that you didn’t know you had using these tips and tricks of organization specialists. Most people let the garage get out of control from time to time. Get your garage to a point where it is easy to manage and maintain.

First,  clean everything out. Choose an organization system that meets your needs. Shelves and/or cabinets usually end up being a catch-all for things that don’t have a specific place to be stored. Arrange everything outside of the garage in categories to help you decide which system would be best for you.

If you have a lot of hand tools, picture a work shop area with a workbench and a pegboard, wall grid or slatwall system above it. Magnetic tool bars, tool hooks, and hardware bins over the workbench keep smaller items visible and within easy reach. If you want to use a tool box, get one with a lot of shallow drawers. Piling and stacking screwdrivers, wrenches and sockets just creates an unorganized mess in no time.

Organize your items in stations. Slatwall Panel or Wire Grid Systems are great to use depending on your needs. These can be purchased to cover one or more walls, from single strips to small sections to floor-to-ceiling areas.

Power tools can make up one section of the garage. Lawn and garden equipment can be hung on special hooks near the lawn mower. Fertilizers and other chemicals need to go in a locking cabinet or stored on high shelves. Yard shoes and other things that can get strewn about can be put in baskets, on shelves and shoe racks.

Create a sports equipment station. Check out the huge variety of baskets, shelves and hooks that are available for all types of sports. Bikes can be hung from the ceiling on hoists or placed, vertically or horizontally, on a variety of available slatwall or grid hooks and brackets. Similarly, canoes and kayaks have many of the same options.

Stationing off everything will make it easy to find when the time comes. Whether you need a deck screw or a paint roller, you’ll know exactly where it should be.
